Rose Tuition Safeguarding Policy
Last updated: 11/06/2026
1. Our commitment
Rose Tuition Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child and young person we work with. We believe every child has the right to learn in a safe environment, and that the welfare of the child is always the first priority. This policy applies to everyone working with or on behalf of Rose Tuition, including our founder, all tutors, and any staff or contractors, across both in-person and online tuition.
2. Key principles
- The welfare of the child comes first.
- All children, regardless of age, background or ability, have an equal right to protection from harm.
- Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and every concern is taken seriously and acted upon.
- We work openly with parents, carers and, where necessary, external agencies to keep children safe.
3. Designated Safeguarding Lead
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Danny Rose, founder and director of Rose Tuition. The DSL is responsible for managing safeguarding concerns, deciding on next steps, and liaising with parents and external agencies where required.
Contact: Danny Rose, d.rose@rosetuition.com, 0115 795 6783.
If a concern relates to the DSL personally, it should be raised directly with the relevant Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), or with the NSPCC (see section 8).
4. Safer recruitment
We take rigorous steps to ensure every tutor is suitable to work with children:
- Every tutor holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has experience teaching in a classroom.
- Every tutor holds an enhanced DBS check and is on the DBS Update Service, which we check.
- Our founder personally interviews every prospective tutor, including structured safeguarding questions, as part of a safer recruitment process managed through our onboarding system.
- We verify identity, qualifications and references before any tutor works with a student.
5. Code of conduct and professional boundaries
All tutors are required to:
- Maintain clear professional boundaries with students and families at all times.
- Communicate with families only through Rose Tuition's official channels, and never share personal social media or arrange private contact with a student outside agreed sessions.
- Avoid being alone with a child in any way that is not open and observable.
- Treat every student with respect, and never use language or behaviour that could be considered intimidating, discriminatory or inappropriate.
- Report any safeguarding concern immediately, however minor it may seem.
6. In-person and online arrangements
- For one-to-one sessions, we ask that a parent or other responsible adult is present in the home and contactable throughout the lesson.
- For online sessions, we ask that a responsible adult is nearby and that the child works in a shared, non-private space.
- All online lessons are delivered through our secure online classroom (Lessonspace).
- All online lessons are recorded and shared only with the student and Rose Tuition administrators, giving an added layer of transparency and protection for both students and tutors. Tutors may not make their own recordings without explicit, documented consent.
7. Recognising and responding to concerns
Everyone working with Rose Tuition should be alert to signs that a child may be at risk of harm, including physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect, or online harm.
If a tutor, parent or student has a concern about a child's welfare or safety, they should:
- Take it seriously and act without delay.
- Report it to the Designated Safeguarding Lead as soon as possible, with a factual record of what was seen or heard.
- Not attempt to investigate the matter themselves, and not promise to keep information secret where a child may be at risk.
If a child is in immediate danger, call the emergency services on 999 first.
8. How to raise a safeguarding concern
Concerns can be raised with our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Danny Rose, at d.rose@rosetuition.com or 0115 795 6783.
Where appropriate, concerns will be escalated to the relevant Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) or children's social care. Anyone can also contact:
- The NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000.
- The Police on 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (emergency).
9. Allegations against a tutor or member of Rose Tuition
Any allegation against a tutor or anyone working for Rose Tuition will be taken seriously and handled promptly. The DSL will assess the concern, take appropriate action to protect the child (which may include suspending the tutor pending investigation), and refer the matter to the LADO and other agencies where required.
10. Information sharing and confidentiality
We share safeguarding information only on a need-to-know basis, in the child's best interests, and in line with our Privacy Policy and data protection law. Concerns and the actions taken are recorded and stored securely.
11. Review
This policy is reviewed at least annually, and sooner if there are changes in legislation or practice.
